Bulgaria complains to Brussels that North Macedonia is not fulfilling the obligations it has undertaken.
For the head of Bulgarian diplomacy, Georg Georgiev, the initiative to assess the constitutionality of the protocol from the good neighborly agreement with Bulgaria, submitted to the Constitutional Court by former MP Liljana Popovska, is a provocation and an absurd procedure.
In a letter to European representatives, Georgiev warns that this initiative represents a problem created by the authorities in North Macedonia themselves, with serious implications for the country’s European perspective. “Bulgaria expects the neighboring country to fulfill its obligations in good faith, which the European Council itself has consistently insisted on.
We remain of the opinion that the best solution for the future of the Western Balkans is the participation of all states in this successful project called the European Union.
Sofia will not accept any changes to the protocol from 2022, regardless of legal or political processes in North Macedonia, Georgiev wrote.
