Chargé d’Affaires at the US Embassy in Pristina, Anu Pratipati, has emphasized the importance of the participation of Kosovo Serbs in the institutional and political life of the country.
In an interview with Serbian-language media, Pratipati emphasized that “when you are not at the table, others make decisions for you,” calling on the Serbian community to take responsibility in building a more stable and prosperous Kosovo.
Almost a year after the departure of Ambassador Geoffrey Hovenier, Pratipati is the first female official to lead the US Embassy in Kosovo.
She confirmed that the process of selecting a new ambassador could take time, but stressed that his absence does not imply a lack of commitment on the part of the US.
“The United States has proudly supported Kosovo’s path to becoming a sovereign, democratic, multiethnic, and prosperous country. But we are concerned about the actions of the interim government and the movements that have increased tensions, especially in relation to the treatment of Serbs,” Pratipati stated.
She recalled that the Government of Kosovo, led by acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti, is responsible for the security and well-being of all citizens without distinction.
“We expect the Government to guarantee equal opportunities for Serbs and ensure their full participation in the political and civic life of Kosovo,” she added.
Regarding parallel Serbian institutions in education and health, Pratipati said that they should be integrated into the Kosovo system.
“We understand the sensitivity related to the education and health of the Serbian community. We have consistently spoken out against the closure of institutions without coordination with them,” the American diplomat stressed, they write. Serbian media, Telegrafi reports.
