– For reasons I don’t quite understand, it seems that the global narrative about Norway is that we have a vague, white culture. Many Americans view Norway as “the United States, but better,” she says in one of her Tiktok videos.

In the video “30 tips to immigrate to Norway as an American”, she describes the perception of Norway as a “white mecca”, influenced by racist notions and Americans’ lack of knowledge of the country.

– Listen here: If you moved to China or France, you would expect cultural differences. But Americans do not see big differences between themselves and Norwegians, she says, ending the video.

Nordmann Fetish.

According to her, Norway and Norwegians are much more complex than the glossy Americans are served on social media.

She herself believes that the interest in Norwegians can approach some form of fetish, where whiteness, coziness and rumors of a strong welfare state are central.

– Rather think about Norwegians who New Yorkers on a good day, she says.

– Good heart, but not uncritically friendly. They line up if your car gets a motor stop, but they definitely won’t talk on the subway.

When Americans write in the comments section that, despite the warnings, they will love Norway, she responds from the kitchen table in Trondheim:
