Tsarevo is one of the most well-known resorts on Bulgaria’s southern Black Sea coast, which has grown to be a year-round tourist destination. Even though the summer travel season is over, Tsarevo is still thriving and sees a constant stream of visitors. Families from big cities in Bulgaria make up the majority of visitors in early September, but foreigners are also swarming to this charming municipality in search of a more unusual escape from the usual beach vacation.

Tourism Still Thriving into Fall

The summer season in Tsarevo is proving to be an exceptional one, with signs indicating it will continue well into the month of September. The overall sentiment surrounding the 2025 season is overwhelmingly positive, despite earlier concerns regarding the potential impact of Bulgaria’s entry into the Schengen Area and the increased competition from neighbouring Greece. These factors were initially expected to hurt Bulgarian tourism, but the numbers tell a different story.

Not only have both local and international tourists shown significant interest in the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, but many are also extending their stays beyond the traditional summer months. In Tsarevo, the tourism season is scheduled to run until the end of September, giving visitors ample time to enjoy everything the town has to offer.

While the school year may have begun, children and families are still making weekend trips to the region, maintaining a steady stream of visitors throughout the autumn. The rising popularity of Tsarevo as a destination is also reflected in a growing trend of vacation property sales, especially in the municipality’s well-established tourist areas. Although exact figures will not be available until the end of the month, the overall trend is positive.

Infrastructure Development Drives Success

A key factor behind the growing popularity of Tsarevo is the significant investment in infrastructure. The municipal budget for 2025 saw a remarkable increase, rising from 30 million BGN to 83 million BGN. This boost was made possible through a combination of European Union funds and local financing, which have funded numerous improvements aimed at enhancing both tourist experience and local quality of life.

Among the most notable improvements is the construction of a new medical centre, which now serves as the only facility of its kind south of Burgas. In addition, roadways leading to the picturesque Strandzha villages of Fazanovo and Brodilovo have undergone extensive renovations, improving safety and access to these areas. There has also been an upgrade to the road link between the village of Lozenets and Tsarevo, making it easier for visitors to travel between the two popular destinations.

As a result of these efforts, accommodation occupancy rates in Tsarevo during August 2025 surpassed 95%, a clear indication of the growing demand for the region’s hospitality services. This boost in infrastructure has played a vital role in keeping Tsarevo appealing to both returning and first-time visitors.

A Wide-Ranging International Appeal

Tourism in Tsarevo has not been limited to local visitors. While traditional markets like the Czech Republic and Poland remain strong, the town has also seen a return of travellers from Germany and Denmark. This uptick in international visitors is largely attributed to Tsarevo’s appeal as a destination for both high-end and mid-range tourism. Visitors from these countries are not only drawn to the beautiful beaches but also to Tsarevo’s rich cultural programmes, affordable healthcare, and overall safety.

The combination of these elements has allowed Tsarevo to stand out as more than just a beach destination. Tourists are now choosing it for its mix of relaxation, cultural activities, and even medical tourism, making it an attractive place for those looking to settle or purchase vacation properties. Tsarevo has quickly become not only a seasonal destination but also a place where people can live year-round, further extending the tourist season.

An Enticing Cultural Calendar

Beyond its stunning coastline, Tsarevo offers a variety of cultural events and programmes that attract a diverse range of tourists. From the Kalandzha Run in May, which saw over 2,000 participants, to the recent LUNAR Festival of Lights, held outside Sofia for the first time, Tsarevo’s entertainment scene offers something for everyone. The municipality also celebrated the Fish Fest on September 6, showcasing local culture and gastronomy.

One of the most awaited events is the “Dzhurdzhuna” or Evening of the Tsarevo Song, which takes place on September 11. This lively gathering of music, soul, and guitar is an essential part of Tsarevo’s cultural identity, drawing music lovers and those interested in the area’s traditional roots. These cultural experiences are not only a great way to celebrate Tsarevo’s heritage but also an excellent draw for tourists seeking something beyond just the beach.

A Destination for Every Traveler

What sets Tsarevo apart from other tourist destinations along the Black Sea coast is the variety of experiences it offers. Each settlement within the municipality has its own unique character and attracts different types of travellers.

Lozenets, for example, is renowned for its high-end party scene, catering to visitors seeking premium services and an upscale experience. Tsarevo, meanwhile, has long been considered the cultural heart of the municipality, offering visitors a blend of history, art, and music. For those seeking a more rustic experience, Varvara and Sinemorets provide opportunities for alternative tourism, such as camping and staying in camper vans. Ahtopol, with its more romantic ambiance, is ideal for couples and those looking for a peaceful retreat.

This diversity of offerings ensures that Tsarevo has something for every kind of tourist, whether they are looking for luxury, adventure, culture, or relaxation. The region’s ability to cater to different tastes is one of the reasons it has become a preferred destination for both local and international visitors alike.

A Year-Round Haven

The fact that Tsarevo can prosper outside of the summer months says a lot about how popular the place is. The town’s continuous infrastructure improvements, rich cultural offerings, and variety of tourism options have made it one of Bulgaria’s most sought-after destinations for travellers and real estate investors. Tsarevo keeps demonstrating that it is a year-round paradise with something to offer everyone as the summer travel season continues into the fall.
