The International Space Station measures 357 feet end-to-end. That’s almost equivalent to the length of an American football field including the end zones (360 feet). NASA Image.
On a venn diagram, the overlap of people who care about the ISS and American Football is zero.

“how big do we make this thing”?
“Let’s make it a size that uneducated Americans can understand and that confuses Europeans — a football field.”

It’s good when there are smaller options.

Americans. They will do anything to avoid using the metric system. They even created that game and for some reason called it *football*, just to get proper measurements for ISS /s

How cute, such a small football field.
Get metric, get CANADIAN. (Our balls are bigger too!)

It’s pretty small. About 5600 square feet of habitable area. That’s not much space for living and work for 7 to 9 adults when you’re stuck there for 6-12 months.

Coming tomorrow: new executive order that the newly relocated headquarters in Alabama will field its own NFL team. Or else! THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER!

Most of it solar panels and radiators. Shows how small the habitable space is too – fairly tiny.

This is the first time my mind has been able to understand the size of it. It’s not like they hava a car parked out front so you can estimate the size. Thanks for posting.

Could you add cheeseburgers as a reference as well? that would be very helpful thank you.

I work at NASA, specifically with the ISS. For my NASA fantasy football league, this was my team’s image. Given current events, [this](https://share.google/06FTC0lU2QLAnhBG1) is now my team’s image

For once, something is actually the size of a football field!!! It’s pretty satisfying for us Americans who get far too many area and length comparisons given in units of football fields.

To really understand this, I’m going to need to see it superimposed on a Canadian football field, too.
