Russia killed at least four people, including an infant, overnight in its worst airstrike of the war in Ukraine. The strikes ignited Ukraine’s Cabinet of Ministers building in central Kyiv.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the drone and missile barrage struck across the north, south and east of the country, as well as other regions.

In a post on X, Zelenskyy called for broad response from allies including the U.S., seeking sanctions and strong actions against Russia. “Clearly Russia is trying to inflict pain on Ukraine, with even more brazen attacks,” he said. “This is a clear sign that Putin is testing the world – whether they will accept to tolerate this.”

Elsewhere in Kyiv, residential apartments were damaged. Dozens of residents wrapped in blankets gathered on the streets to survey the damage to their homes as rescue workers fought to extinguish the flames.

What President Trump says about the bombing in Ukraine

President Donald Trump said European leaders would visit to discuss how to resolve the Russia-Ukraine war. He did not give names. Trump added that he wasn’t happy after the massive Russian air assault on the main government building in Kyiv.

“The Russia-Ukraine situation, we’re going to get it done,” Trump said.

He repeated that he expects to talk to Putin “soon,” which is what he said after meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and other European leaders at the White House in mid-August.

“I’m not happy about the whole war,” Trump said. “No one has been tougher on President Putin. I am not thrilled with Putin.”
