In China, you have police officers every 100m and cameras everywhere, so yes it feel safe. However, there is also a big brother is watching you feeling, which can at times be really uncomfortable.

    2. Well you can criticise his political stance and him hanging out with the all the autocrats, but in Beijing/Shanghai or Guangzhou you can walk home at 3am as a woman and feel safe. You also won’t have immigrants shouting around the train station or in trains trying to sell you drugs or stealing your belongings. Obviously, this is partially due to China not accepting any or very few immigrants and a police state, but overall his statement is not wrong.

    3. Unsurprising the head of the racist psrty feels safer in anothrr country than at home where half of the population thinks he is a racist asshole.

Also unsurprising he has a hard on for a surveilance state.

    4. Then go! If that’s where you feel safest, be there. No one here will miss you and your Nazi-loving ass!

    5. yes, because they have less freedom, Some totalitarian states are safe for mlst people. it doesnt make them good!

He‘ll have a lot more to cry about loss of freedoms if he starts thinking about it.

Feel free to stay there, Ueli. They might not be as tolerant of the antivax strychler stuff though so maybe tone that down a bit

    8. Reminds me of that russian joke

      The American told the russian
“In my country I can go to the white house and say Mr. president I don’t like the way you’re running our country”
The russian says “i can also do that”
      The American replies “you can?”
The russian replies “yes I can go over to the Kremlin and bang on the desk and say Mr. President I don’t like the way the American president’s running his country”

Replace America with Switzerland and Russia with china and it’s basically that

    9. I felt safer in kyiv than i do in zurich, bombs and all. doesnt mean much. besides, “feeling” doesnt always track with reality.

The thing is that it’s exactly how he formulated it : it’s his feelings.

You can convince yourself that Zurich is an unsafe place (cherrypick the worst areas, and sprinkle in some xenophobic bias), then go somewhere else (cherrypick the tourist/business area you were at) and *feel* that it’s safer. The crime statistics should be what ultimately drives comparisons ; I hate how media imported this thing where they make news about “feeling unsafe” polls, as such kind of reports tend to be misleading about the actual situation of a place.

    11. I wonder if he would dare to speak against the covid lockdown and other measures china took during covid.

    12. It‘s the same argument Trump uses to argue that Washington DC, Chicago etc are unsafe. Shouldn’t come as a surprise though that Maurer is in the same camp as Trump on such topics.

    13. This is not true of Zurich, but as a woman, Shanghai and similar cities are safer than any in today’s Western Europe.

Little Ueli glazing a brutally oppressive regime. Sounds about right. SVP.. the freedom party.

    16. When I went to China I was quite surprised to see many women walk in the city alone at night.

Not saying that it doesn’t happen here, but it’s definitely not that widespread.
