The Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia, in today’s plenary session, adopted the Declaration on holding fair, free and democratic elections for members of municipal councils and mayors of municipalities and the City of Skopje.
This declaration is the first of its kind to be approved in the Assembly.
The Assembly informed that with this declaration, the Assembly reaffirms its non-partisan unity and commitment to guaranteeing democratic and European standards in the electoral process, offering full support to responsible institutions, for independent monitoring and for a peaceful and equal electoral campaign.
The declaration emphasizes the importance of respecting the law, fundamental rights and freedoms, as well as condemning hate speech, violence, corruption and misuse of state resources. It also emphasizes the importance of political tolerance and respect between different political options, as well as the role of the media in ensuring a positive atmosphere of the electoral process through the equal promotion of candidates, their ideas and platforms.
