Vilnius International Airport was temporarily closed on Thursday evening due to an unidentified flying object, Lithuanian airport spokesman Tadas Vasiliauskas confirmed to Latvian Television.
On Thursday evening, 11 September, at around 21:00, Vilnius airport services received a report that an unidentified flying object was over the airport. A decision was immediately taken to suspend airport operations until the circumstances and threat level could be clarified.
With the involvement of an extensive security force, the unidentified object was not found, and the airport was reopened at 22:30.
Vilnius Airport said that the impact on the flight schedule was minimal, but a flight of the Latvian national airline airBaltic en route to Vilnius from Tallinn was diverted and landed at Rīga International Airport.
