In the newest episode of "appeasing the bullies"the Federal council is mulling the softening of laws – more specifically: is mulling to disadvantage local producers over foreign producers against the wishes of the population. What’s the point of our local laws, when foreign producers don’t need to follow them?

And one point that certainly will be made: "I don’t care, I won’t buy it!" "As long as it’s labelled"

If it’s cheaper, people will buy it. If it’s cheaper, producers of prepackaged food will use it in their recipes.

It’s always about the price. See the popularity of Temu.

    1. Fertige chabbis. So Ami Quatsch bruchemer eifach nid.

Zur höll mit dene. Und usschaffe vo dene Bundesröt, die sind alles weichi Nudle oder kauft, chamer niemert verzelle dass die s‘best sind wo üses Land het.

    2. As long as they are clearly marked, you could just avoid them. However, if they are allowed to hide the fact, then that would, IMO, be worth an initiative.

    3. American chickens are not vaccinated against salmonella. Most people don’t know what their work canteen uses, or what the restaurants use. That means we’re about to get outbreaks. This is actually very sad.

I hope they do this in a smart way. Basically allow it but make it not feasible on another level or economically unattractive.

Anyone has an idea whether US chicken is cheaper than the imported ones (like from Thailand, Brazil, Poland, Hungary) we already have?

No one wants their chlorine chicken, steroid beef, corn starch and petroleum product infused UPF’s, or their crappy fighter planes. And if they want to slap a tax on their own population to get their hands on our products, then whatever.

    6. Absolutely disgusting, I don’t want to have to review every purchase in detail.

And I definitely don’t want to eat American crap food. I lived there for a while, and the quality of the food is just miserable.

Whatever we would be saving, we’d be paying multiplied in health care costs.

I go against the grain here. We need to get rid if these 39% tariffs. It‘s going to wreak havoc on the economy and people‘s jobs.

If that means chlorinated chickens (that no one will buy here anyway because swiss people are smart), for the next 3 years until Trump stops being president. So be it.

We can reverse this again easily.
Also we can be very slow with actual implementation.
