Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) has accused the European Union (EU) of being behind the protests in Serbia, with the aim of bringing to power “an obedient leadership loyal to Brussels”, and that its focus is on “brainwashing” young people through media funded by Brussels.
“The unrest in Serbia, with the active participation of young people, is largely a product of the subversive activities of the European Union and its member states. The goal of the European liberal mainstream is to bring to power in this largest Balkan country an obedient leadership loyal to Brussels,” the SVR stated on its website, as reported by media in Belgrade.
This intelligence agency responsible for activities outside Russia states that “it should be acknowledged that the European elites are achieving a lot – young people are radicalizing and moving from peaceful protests to ‘revolutionary’ methods of struggle and violence”, but adds that “the ‘color revolution’ scenario, which the West has successfully tested in many countries, is not yielding the expected results in Serbia”.
“The ultimate goals of the Eurobureaucracy have not been achieved. The main reasons for this are strong patriotic feelings, the unifying influence of the Serbian Orthodox Church, and the memory of the NATO aggression, which resulted in the disintegration of the country (the secession of Kosovo),” adds the SVR.
The agency claims that “Euro-elite intend to use the anniversary of the tragic events” in Novi Sad on November 1, which triggered the protest actions, to turn the situation in their favor.
“The focus is on ‘brainwashing’ Serbian youth and promoting the so-called ‘bright European future’. According to the data obtained, through non-governmental organizations linked to Brussels, Serbian news portals FoNet, RAM, Vreme, Južne vesti, Slobodna reč, Bum 93, Podrinske, Frimidija, SOinfo, FAR, Storiteler, as well as the non-governmental organization Link, receive significant financial support,” the SVR states.
The statement also states that “Brussels expects that pumping finances into the media and NGOs will mobilize the electorate, bring people to the streets and end the ‘Serbian Maidan’ according to a scenario that has been tested many times.”
“However, the false promises of European officials about ‘soon entry into the blooming European garden’ are just bait. The price for this increasingly weak perspective will have to be paid in conquests and the memory of ancestors. The European Union does not need a proud and united Serbian people,” Russian intelligence officials conclude.
