  1. That’s okay, it’s just a scheme to redistribute tax dollars to his donors anyway. Even he doesn’t expect the Golden Dome to actually work.

  2. It really is the perfect name for the program. Gold: excessively expensive, soft and easily broken, heavy and unwieldy. A terrible material to make a shield out of.

He wants a new space based technology that hasn’t been developed. These would be some crazy complex satellites and a bunch of them.

  4. Nothing more than a tax payer handout to defense contractors. This program will never happen and all that money will just go into a black hole as a gift for the appropriate fealty given to Trump.

  5. Adjusted for inflation? The Manhattan project was 2bln in the 1940’s. Considering the current defence budget this is a drop in the bucket.

It literally won’t happen I bet. This is all pandering to the half of America that’s paranoid

  7. The Golden Dome in all likelihood will be a weapon plateform design to do multiple things with the main responsibility being missile interception. The Manhattan project is a very narrowed specific project about just creating the bomb. The right compaison would be to add all the nuclear lauching systems from silos and booster program in ground based to air boosters and lauching platform for air delivery and of course underwater booster platform for sub system.

  8. More than that, and a majority of it will go straight to grift. These people are unimaginative, and just ballooned the “wall” grift.

  9. So instead of universal health care and education we get a pipedream.

I work my ass off to make a 100k a year and still live paycheck to paycheck and this is the bullshit the admin is doing to improve our lives?

Biden wanted to forgive student loans. And this shit is what the rightists really wanted.

  10. Osama Bin Laden’s stated goals for 9/11 were to generate such an over-reaction that it would destroy our way of life, politically and economically. He got pretty close, but at the same time as the economy was on a tear and borrowing costs for the government were some of the lowest in history.

I guess Krasnov will finish the job.

  11. Didn’t he say he was going to be cutting the deficit and reducing our national debt? Didn’t he?

  12. Who the hell is this supposed to defend against? Most of the countries that have ICBMs capable of reaching the US are allies. Those who aren’t allies aren’t much of a threat. Russia? Half their missiles probably won’t even fly because some general sold off the fuel to buy a new yacht. China? They’re better off owning the global economy than starting a war with the US.

Does Trump plan on goading some nuclear power into launching against the US, or is this just a way to funnel hundreds of billions of dollars from taxpayers to defense contractors?

  13. To be fair, development of the B-29, which was used to deliver the bombs created by the Manhattan Project, cost fifty percent more than the Manhattan Project.

That said, on a per-unit basis, seeing as we eventually built 4,000 B-29s and the Manhattan Project only built three bombs, the development cost per unit was lower. So, if it’s a trillion dollars for Golden Dome development (and can we throw in an extra million or two for a better name?), but you deploy ten-thousand missile systems, the development cost per unit is $100 million, but that’s still lower than the development cost for the F22, on a per-unit basis.

That said, even for a trillion dollars, plus a few trillion more for installation, I’d still be surprised if it picked off fifty percent of ICBMs and maybe ten percent of submarine-launched ballistic missiles. Fifty percent is pretty good if you’re only getting hit by two missiles, but when you’re getting two hundred launched at you, each of which has several MIRVs, it’s still gonna be a bad day for pretty much every major city, so it’s a waste of money.

Congratulations on making SDI look like a cute, inexpensive little side project, but with the same results.

  15. And provide absolutely no benefit to anyone at all, ever. There is no doubt it’s just a way to funnel money to himself or people that paid for him to be in the position he is in

Lol the world will be destroyed well before then. Just another grandiose idea to rile up the base.

Conservatives live their entire lives in fear of everything. How about using diplomacy and save us a few trillion dollars.

And do absolutely nothing we can’t already do w conventional defense.

Thank goodness he was elected so we can stop wasteful government spending.

    He’s a moron.
