The outgoing German Ambassador to Kosovo, Jorn Rohde, has commented on the European Union’s letter to Kosovo, where EU countries said they will not meet with the acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, in his office.

Rohde said that it is always good to have direct communications, as he said that this is EU policy and that the reason for this policy is stated in the EU letter.

“It is an EU policy. It was clearly stated in the letter why this is the reason, we respect the Supreme Court’s decision, you have your Constitution,” Rohde said in Rubikon on Klan Kosova.

He also spoke about the possibility of early national elections, saying that Kosovo would not be the only country that could have early elections.

“If you can’t solve the problem, elections may be the last resort. Maybe the question for citizens too is that political actors can’t find a way to get to this issue.”

“If everyone sees this as a way out, they have to find a compromise. If you can’t agree on the formation of institutions that would enable early elections, the parliament, the speaker of the assembly, the vice-speakers, then that’s why we are in the situation we are in now,” Rohde said, reports Klankosova.tv.

Rohde also spoke about the measures that the European Union has imposed on Kosovo, where he said that Germany’s position is that the measures should be lifted because, according to him, they have targeted the wrong people.

“Our position is that the measures should be lifted because they have targeted the wrong people. They are not being lifted because there are some countries in the EU that are skeptical. They should have been lifted last year and some have had some measures against institutions,” he said.
