The acting government, at today’s meeting, tightened sanctions against Russia and Belarus, in accordance with EU and US decisions.
Acting Minister of Internal Affairs, Xhelal Sveçla, said that this decision comes as part of Kosovo’s commitment to support Ukraine and harmonize policies with international partners.
“In order to support the opposition to the aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, in accordance with the measures and sanctions of the EU and the US, the MFA proposes for consideration and approval the decision on the implementation of the 15th, 16th, 17th and 18th packages of EU sanctions against the Russian Federation, as well as the relevant additional measures. On December 16, 2024, the Council of the EU adopted the 15th package of sanctions against the Russian Federation. This package includes economic and individual restrictive measures aimed at further limiting Russia’s ability to wage its illegal, unprovoked and unjustified war of aggression against Ukraine,” he said.
The 15th package, adopted in December 2024, included asset freezes and travel bans for 54 individuals and 30 entities, as well as new restrictions on the so-called shadow Russian shipping, with 52 vessels listed, as well as export bans on dual-use technology.
Meanwhile, the 16th package, adopted in February 2025, added 48 individuals and 35 entities to the blacklist, banned the import of aluminum from Russia, and targeted 74 more ships, bringing the total to 153. /kp/
