So I took a trip using easy ride, as you can see it’s the exact same route back and forth, yet somehow one way was much cheaper, does anyone know why this is? And how I can preferably always travel the cheaper way.

    1. they’re different tickets, the first one is all zones, the second one only includes 5, the difference in price has to do with that

    2. if they are exactly the same route, then it is the duration of travel that decides. you probably cannot travel with the libero ticket for 3h

    3. It’s not that one way is cheaper than the other. Both tickets concur to cover both of the trips. Easyride tries to determine the cheapest option that covers your trip(s), even if it is not the most straightforward one.

In your case, it figured out that the best is having:

      – A-Welle ticket for all zones (that lasts 3 hours) – it covers basically the part in Aarau, back and forth
      – Libero 5 zones ticket (that lasts 2 hours) – it covers the part in Solothurn that is not covered by the A-Welle All Zones ticket

Even if it’s a bit counterintuitive, the two tickets cover each half of your single trips. Probably you would get a different combination of tickets if you returned later in the day, because the 2/3 hours tickets cannot be used in the same way.

A funny thing that I’ve never noticed before using Easyride is that in Zurich, with Halbtax, if you need to do multiple trips in two hours, it’s cheaper to buy a 4 zones ticket (it covers 2 hours, 4.60) rather than two single tickets (1 hour each, 2×3.20).

    4. It’s not one charge for the way in and one for the way out, it’s one for the in/out around Olten and one for the in/out around bellach, both valid for the entire duration of your trip. Check out the zone plans for A-Welle and for Libero and you’ll see what’s going on.
