Uncertainty surrounds North Macedonia’s participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 2026, as the country’s national broadcaster, MRT, has not yet made a final decision. In its newly published work plan for 2026, MRT stated that its involvement in the contest remains under careful review due to a variety of factors.
According to the broadcaster, the decision requires a thorough assessment of financial and production capabilities, as well as an evaluation of the concept for selecting the country’s representative and overall performance strategy. Past experiences and results will also play a role in shaping the final verdict.
MRT emphasized that its editorial board will weigh all these elements before reaching a conclusion, stressing the need to balance the interests of the public service with the cultural promotion of the country and the expectations of the audience.
While no clear timeline has been announced, the broadcaster underlined that any decision will aim to serve the long-term interests of both the institution and North Macedonia’s cultural visibility on the European stage.
For fans, the statement leaves the door open as participation in Eurovision 2026 remains possible, but not guaranteed.
