SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A former first lady of San Francisco has been confirmed as the United States Ambassador to Greece. Kimberly Guilfoyle, who was a married to Gavin Newsom from 2001 until 2006, was confirmed in a Senate roll call vote Thursday.

Guilfoyle was one of 48 nominees confirmed after Republicans invoked the “nuclear option,” using a simple majority to change chamber rules. The rule change came after Democrats had forced multiple votes on many of President Donald Trump’s nominees.

Guilfoyle was a rising assistant district attorney in San Francisco when she married Newsom, who was elected mayor a couple years later. Following her split from Newsom, Guilfoyle moved east and became a Fox News pundit. After divorcing her second husband, socialite Eric Villency, she later became involved with Donald Trump Jr.

The two announced their engagement in 2022. However, they split in December 2024 when Trump Jr. reportedly became involved with Palm Beach socialite Bettina Anderson.

“I am profoundly grateful to President Trump and the U.S. Senate for their trust and confidence in me,” Guilfoyle wrote on X. “It is the honor of my life to serve as the first female Ambassador of the United States to Greece.”
