  1. Oberyn_TheRed_Viper on

Conjunction with Venus. Not sure about the 3rd light. Generic star or far away galaxy maybe.
Edit – /u/mxrider255 beat me to it, Regulus is the 3rd.

  2. Photons, most likely. Although, people exposed to Intense radiation can can visual stimulation known as phosphenes, in which case you have bigger worries.

  3. Took the exact same picture the other morning. Venus and Regulus. And then obviously the crescent moon lol.

  4. I wonder if OP is thinking about how you can see a bit of the moon illuminated but the rest of it is more clearly visible than usual as well.

  5. What everyone is omiting is that the “dark side” of the moon is illuminated by the earth. The light our planet reflects. Earthshine as oposite of the night light we get on full moon… moonshine.

  6. Download Stellarium – really cool app that uses your GPS to show you what you point your phone at in the sky.

  7. In my native tongue we call that “dacksup da” – as in “Pull your dacks up, the sun shining on your old man balls”.

  8. I briefly wondered about this, but then got sad when I remembered other planets exist. 🥹 My child-like wonder died again… womp womp.

  9. You just discovered the Moon trying to photobomb Jupiter’s family portrait. Those little dots are his kids (the Galilean moons), and the Moon is like, ‘hey guys, scoot over, I wanna be in this one too.

  10. Notably there is no specific astronomical reason that they should align like that. _Planets_ can align because they all orbit on the same plane around the sun. But our moon, a planet and a star have no reason to align other than the fact there is only so much sky and everything moves through it, so by the law of mere averages such alignments must happen now and again.

  11. I saw this the other morning and immediately purchased a telescope. I can almost always spot Venus, it’s my favorite planet

  12. This is why I love Reddit. I saw this on my morning run the other day and it was beautiful. But had no clue what they were, besides the moon. The sky was so clear (for Houston). Full view of Orion and this. Space is amazing.
