Around 65,000 volunteers collected waste across Switzerland

Around 65,000 volunteers picked up trash on Friday and Saturday during National Cleanup Day. Several tons of trash were collected and properly disposed of, according to the Swiss Center for Competence Against Waste.
In total, over 700 clean-up campaigns were organized across Switzerland as part of the 13th edition of Clean-up Day, writes swissinfo. According to the Swiss Center of Competence against Waste (IGSU), schools, associations, municipalities, companies, small groups and individuals, including politicians, took part in the campaign, reports albinfo.ch.
National Cleanup Day is part of World Cleanup Day, which took place on Saturday. It has been organized in Switzerland by IGSU since 2013. According to organizers, the day mobilizes tens of thousands of volunteers every year.
The day of action is supported by the Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN) and others. Next year, Cleanup Day will take place on September 18th and 19th.
