    HANDS OF HOPE

The Hands of Hope Food Pantry in Portland has announced that it will be hosting a Thanksgiving Turkey Drive through Oct. 31. This year, Hands of Hope has set a goal of raising $6,000 for turkeys.

The pantry accepts several forms of donation, including check, cash and Venmo. Those wishing to participate may mail in checks or bring them in person to 101C South Russell Street.

Hands of Hope hopes each family will receive a full-size turkey to enjoy with their loved ones. Pantry clients also receive extra food around the holidays to ensure they have a traditional Thanksgiving meal — with the turkey, of course, being the star of the table!

Turkey sign-ups will take place in person this year, so pantry clients are asked to register during their next shopping visit. Sign-ups will close on Oct. 18.

If the $6,000 goal is exceeded, additional funds will go toward Christmas hams. For those interested in volunteering during the holidays, signups are now available at www.HON.org.

Hands of Hope is also conducting a Thanksgiving Food Drive during the month of September. The pantry is seeking donations of instant potatoes, Stove Top-style dressing, gravy, boxed desserts, canned vegetables, cranberry sauce, Jiffy cornbread mix, metal throwaway roasting pans and small bags of flour. Donations may be dropped off at the Sumner County Highway Department, 1051 Old Highway 109N in Gallatin.
