Gas giant moons with subsurface oceans could be prime places in the universe where life develops. Plenty of water, shielded from radiation, plenty of geothermal activity due to the gravity pull of the gas giant feeding the ecosystem….
If that is the case, it also means that most of the life there, even if ever become intelligent, will likely be forever encased and never reaching the stars. Under tens of kilometers of rock and ice, living in absolute darkness, the entirety of the universe, as far as they know, will be their subterranean ocean.
