The state’s commissioner of business and economic affairs, Taylor Caswell, is resigning later this month.

In July, Caswell failed to gain the support of a majority of the Executive Council for another four-year term.

He played a key role in the state’s COVID-19 response, leading the governor’s office for emergency relief and recovery efforts.

Some councilors were upset about Caswell’s resignation.

“His departure is unnecessary, preventable and a great loss for our state,” executive councilor Karen Liot Hill said.

Caswell served as commissioner for the last eight years. Prior to that, he led the Community Development Finance Authority.
