Poland’s Minister of Digitalization, Krzysztof Gawkowski, claimed on X to have evidence of Russia’s intentional violation of Polish airspace. “It was a planned provocation, coordinated with a disinformation campaign, which is also an element of war”, he said.
However, on September 30 NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte reported that the Alliance was still investigating whether Russia had deliberately entered Polish and Estonian airspace. He also added that it was not yet clear who exactly violated Danish airspace.
Meanwhile, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban emphasized that Budapest was prepared to shoot down Russian drones if they either accidentally or intentionally crossed into Hungarian airspace.
Additionally, the US, amid rising Russian aggression toward European countries, has deployed reconnaissance aircraft in the Baltic Sea near Russian borders that are capable of detecting and destroying submarines, as well as participating in operations against naval vessels. These aircraft include at least three Boeing P-8A Poseidons, which were deployed at Norway’s largest airport, Gardermoen, in late September. On September 28, one of these aircraft flew over the Baltic Sea and circled near the Kaliningrad region for several hours, where a base belonging to the Russian Baltic Fleet is located.
