As of today in Serbia, salaries in education and healthcare have increased by 5%, while the minimum wage has risen from 457 to 500 euros, which is a 9.4% increase.
This means that teachers in primary and secondary schools with level VII qualifications will on average receive more than 106,000 dinars, while nurses will earn over 90,000.
For specialist doctors, the base salary, without allowances, will exceed 170,000 dinars.
However, it should be noted that alongside wages, prices are also rising. According to the latest official data, year-on-year inflation grew by 4.6% in June and 4.9% in July.
The minimum wage will reach the minimum consumer basket. In addition to today’s 9.4% increase in the minimum wage, a further regular rise of 10.1% to 551 euros has been agreed with trade unions and employers, starting from the beginning of next year.
This means that, for the first time, the minimum wage is expected to cover the minimum consumer basket at around 111.5%.
