Serbia has officially announced its new head coach. After EuroBasket, it was clear that Svetislav Pesic would not continue as the national team coach. The search was for a younger coach, someone who could develop a new project with the Serbian national team. As we also anticipated on the Backdoor Podcast, the hottest name was Dusan Alimpijevic, current coach of Besiktas. Now, it’s official: Dusan Alimpijevic has signed a three-year contract with the Serbian Federation to become the new national team coach. He will lead Nikola Jokic and his teammates in their upcoming international matches. For Serbia, as for Banchi with Italy, the first opportunity will be the November qualifying windows for the 2027 World Cup. The Serbian national team needs to rebuild after the disappointment of being eliminated in the round of 16 of the European Championships by Finland.
