- Lieutenant Colonel Domenico Pennestribattalion commander of the 129th RGT. Infantry, he led a hard guerrilla war against the Nazis. Made prisoner, to save his men, he declared that he was the only responsible for the conduct of the department. - Ordinary marshal Nicola Serniaunder the 9th RGT. Gaf artillery, rejected the invitation to enroll in republican troops. Arrested and beaten, he ran away from the enemy reaching the rear, he organized patriots teams at the expense of loving the fields and attacking the Germans. Doveroso P.S. sulla Medaglia al Valore concessa a Sebastiano Castagna. Le evidenti responsabilità morali e politiche dei colonialisti italiani in terra d’Africa sono un giudizio storico ineludibile, che però va distinto dal singolo fatto per il quale quest’uomo venne insignito della MOVM. La medaglia premia un atto di puro coraggio: quello di un settantenne che, adescato con l’inganno da un capo “ribelle” e caduto in trappola, preferì la morte alla resa e alla prigionia. Come per ogni onorificenza di questo tipo, è solo il valore dimostrato in quell’istante che va tenuto in considerazione. Il resto è, e deve rimanere, un altro discorso.
