In several regions of Romania on October 7–8, a red alert level has been declared due to expected heavy rain and gusts. Official services warn of possible flooding, transportation disruptions, and temporary closures of educational institutions.

According to the National Meteorological Administration, the eastern and southern regions of the country will be under the highest level of dangerous meteorological conditions: prolonged and heavy rains and gusty winds are expected. The greatest threat concerns Constanța, Călărași, Ialomița, Ilfov, and the city of Bucharest.

The forecast predicts possible thunderstorms, road flooding, and power outages in several areas. Local authorities urge residents to avoid travel and outdoor activities during worsening weather.

Along with the red alert, warnings have been extended to neighboring regions: in particular in Moldova, Dobrogea, and Transylvania, rainfall and gusts are expected. Such developments require heightened caution and attentiveness to the operational alerts of local services.

In connection with the worsening weather, on October 8 in Constanța and several cities, classes may be suspended to ensure the safety of students. In Bucharest, authorities are considering options for remote or hybrid formats of instruction. Meteorologists note that the situation may change depending on the development of the cyclone moving from the southeast.

Recommendations in case of severe weather

During periods of heightened danger, you should follow official forecasts and warnings, avoid travel in flood-prone areas, reduce risks while in a car or at home, and, if possible, keep an emergency supply of water and first aid. If bad weather catches you at home, check the reliability of electricity supply and uninterrupted heating, and prepare lighting and charging devices in case of outages.

In case of adverse conditions, it is recommended to limit outdoor movements and follow the instructions of local services to reduce the impact of the elements on life in cities and towns.
