BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. (KCTV) – Blue Springs is exploring the possibility of a downtown entertainment district on Main Street.
The idea is already a success throughout several areas of Kansas City, including Power & Light, West Bottoms, and Crossroads. Lee’s Summit has a few in and around its downtown, as well.
Entertainment Districts have become a popular way in more recent years to attract crowds to once bustling urban areas that have grown quieter through the decades. Entertainment Districts traditionally allow visitors to walk with open containers in pre-designated areas, encouraging socialization, shopping. eating and overall gathering in a more relaxed atmosphere.
Blue Springs City Council charged staff at its October 6 meeting to draft an ordinance for a proposed entertainment district they could revisit for further discussion at a December city council meeting.
The idea is to expand and capitalize further on several of its already popular downtown events, such as Fall Fest, Corks and Canvases, and Third Thursdays.
