Google is also increasingly relying on artificial intelligence (AI) in its traditional search engine business in Europe. The internet giant is activating the so-called AI mode in Google Search in more than 40 countries, including Switzerland.

The new function, which allows users to chat with search results, was initially launched in the USA, the UK and India in July. Google then activated “AI Mode” in a further 180 countries in mid-August. In addition to Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Spain, Italy, Sweden, Poland, Thailand and Vietnam have now been added.

The new AI mode can be activated in conventional searches or on Google’s country websites. The function appears as a selection option in an additional tab alongside the usual options such as “Everything”, images, books, videos and news. It may take a few days for the new tab with AI mode to appear because Google does not update its servers all at once.
