Greetings and welcome to another of my fluffy little, fuzzy headed romps through my summer vacation photos. This week it’s the second of my diaries in the Polish city of Bydgoszcz. The first of which, in case you missed it, can be visited by clicking on this link.
But before we cross the border into Poland, I thought I’d share a link to the YouTube channel that has been keeping me company while the rest of my family is off traveling the world. Yeah, I’ve become something of a fan of Dr. Angela Collier, whose doctorate is in physics, and whose brain just seems to be better equipped than mine to handle our truly stupid era.
Another antidote to stupid that I’ve been enjoying while letting my eyeballs concentrate on other things is the It’s Probably (not) Aliens! Podcast.
Anyway, I haven’t spent my whole week moping around the apartment. I have been getting out to shop for groceries, to visit little old ladies with Alzheimer’s and had lunch with an old friend that I hadn’t seen, even though we live in the same city, for at least 10 years.
And now, Bydgoszcz …
When we last tuned in to visit our intrepid explorers, they were about to embark upon the perilous waters of the Brda River.

Sharp eyed viewers will recognize this old mill from a sketch shown in my diary last week.

We stayed in that lovely pink building.

Coming out from under the bridge we get a good view of the Tightrope Walker

A little sporting club

Back to ol’ pinky and nearing the end of the line.

Strolling along the banks of the Brda River

At the marina there was this interesting little exhibit of etched glass panels about the history of water sports in Bydgoszcz.

A pond in the lovely park of Casimir the Great

The fountain is called “The Flood” and depicts a pile of rather erotically intertwined human figures and several animals being sprayed with blasts of water. It’s a reproduction of a sculpture that was destroyed during World War Two. And yes, the man with the little disposable shoe covers was a bit of a distraction. I think he was out for a day in the park with his adorable daughter, they had ice cream together, until the man managed to drop his ice cream (seen behind him there). There’s a story there, surely.

The Church of the Apostles Peter and Paul, behind The Flood

The Arthur Rubenstein School of the Musical Arts

And the Philharmonic near another lovely fountain

The side of The Basilica of St. Vincent— with a rather unfinished parking lot.

Not every day that you get to walk around inside a new basilica.

Hey, there’s John Paul II … can’t go anywhere in Poland without him peeking at you.

A pair of lovely Polish corvids

Back down to the river

A last look out the window in the early morning

All’s quiet on the Brda. Even the bridge, where buskers and beggars roamed at night.

Parting shot
Thanks for stopping by.
