  1. Who could have possibly predicted that having people spend every waking hour of their existence working or doing work-related tasks would have resulted in fewer babies.

  2. The part that really interests me in this article:

*The 20s age group is not only shrinking in population but also being marginalized in the job market. In August of last year, the employment rate for those in their 20s was 60.5%, a 1.2 percentage point drop from the previous year. Since August of the previous year (61.7%), it has continued to decline or remain flat for 12 consecutive months without any rebound.*

I’m in Canada, and there’s been a big push back against immigration. It surged post COVID and wasn’t handled well. But many people have the assumption that if you eliminate immigration, despite low birth rates, that it will create favorable job conditions for young workers. But everything you read about the countries that have the biggest population declines shows that young people continue to be the ones that bear the brunt of economic hardship.

Big deal they’ve been importing labour from Vietnam for ages. When the Vietnamese workers hit 35-40 yo they’ll just send them home.

  4. It is strange how technology is increasingly automating stuff and making work much more effective and efficient. Yet at the same time we have less time to spend with family and are spending more time working.

  5. All those old people are going to vote to increase social security (or whatever the sk equivalent is).

We should watch carefully, because that’s where the entire world is heading sooner or later.

  7. i find this incredible how countries with this issue (a lot of developed one ), just refuses to see the obvious and keep pushing on.

    It’s insane.

Yeah people are not starting families with no income or house to live in. If any nation wants to fix falling birthrates then they need to cater to young generations and make sure these generations have a house and income before 30 years of age. Currently people are buying their first house at some 35-40 years old.

  9. It is legitimately scary, and probably demotivating for young people, I for sure wouldnt want to pay into the system which is doomed to collapse.
