These are pictures from my last High Power Rocket Bootcamp (this past august) where I taught 30 people (ages 9-30+) how to build and launch rockets. I’m doing it again! And this time I’m targeting 150 rockets. I will do it on 3 rounds. November, January, and April. Each round will have 30-40 people and its own launch day. Then we’ll build the rest of the rockets up to 150. I want at least 100 unique students. I’ll then have us fly all 150 rockets in one day at LDRS (Large and Dangerous Rocket ships) next year in April. I’m going to make this a movie and take it to a film festival, and get us in downtown parade (like the Indy 500 parade) with an awesome 20ft sculpture with all the rockets on it.

I did a rocket camp thing a couple summers when i was maybe 12 – 13. It was huge for me, really put the bug in me. When I grew up I played a lot of Kerbal Space Program and it was like, here’s the next step after you get into orbit.
So cool that you are doing this. You’re going to make a lot of space fans out of these kids!
Fun hobby. I loved building them and going to events when I was around 13.
More info please. Link, city & state would be nice.
I loved launching model rockets as a kid. 30ish years later I’m still mad I managed to lose the upper half of my Saturn IB model after launch. I was not prepared for how far/high Estes D engines would send that thing!
That’s awesome. I love seeing kids learning about rockets. 💪🏻
So fun. We did this as Scouts when we were kids and had a blast! Great work bringing the community in!

I would’ve love that as a kid, and I’m sure they love it too. This is great. I wish you do it for many years to come
This is so sick! Keep up the good work. We need more people like you getting kids (and adults) interested in space and exploration and science. Shit is getting rough down here, we need minds that aim higher
Amazing! Hopefully we’ll get some new rocket engineers, or astronauts! Looks fun too!
Hell yeah man, positive energy and shared education is exactly what Indy needs. Good on you man
Awesome! I remember doing this as a kid. It was amazing .
Oh yeah. Start ’em young so they will follow through and become astroneers.
Just read October Sky for the first time, how fitting to see this post. I love that you are creating the space for people to pursue this!
You are awesome and that boot camp looks awesome.
That’s awesome! What a great event to expose so many people to science/physics and model rocketry. I would totally volunteer to help with an event like this!
This is inspiring, to say the least. Once I have kids I think I’ll take them to try it out in my country 🙂
This is what lit the fire as a kid. Ended up working Peacekeeper and MMIII reentry systems my entire life. Thanks for being the man that inspired kids like me to pursue a career in aerospace.
This is so cool. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and inspiring our youth!
As someone born and raised in Naptown this is awesome to see
Don’t want to give advice when you’re not asking for it but starting a nonprofit asap will make it easier to grow and accept outreach from the Indy community and beyond
Seriously though the fact that you are contributing so much effort to this is really great to see and you are making long lasting impacts on a lot of kids lives
You’re doing work that absolutely is required for the future. Inspiring curiosity is what must be done. It brings me joy to see you do this, thank you.
Hey, you don’t happen to have more information on model rocket stability to do with fin shape, position and size, do you? Currently doing a university project where I have to make my own rocket out of a coke bottle, and I’m not sure on the ideal fin shape.
We need more like this!
Your next step could be to start a network between educators in different cities. Sharing methods and experiences.
Well done Sir! Posts like these give me hope for the human race.
This is what “it takes a village” is all about and I’m happy to see. This is the world needs more of.
Community.
Please post/DM me a link where I can donate. I need to feel good about something for once rn, and dammit if this ain’t it. This is great stuff.
