Paris Hilton loves being a mother of all types.
The businesswoman, 44, tells PEOPLE in an exclusive interview that her favorite part of being a dog mom is how it prepared her to later become one to children of her own.
“My dogs are my first babies before I had kids,” Hilton — who shares son Phoenix Barron, 2, and daughter London Marilyn, 23 months, with husband Carter Reum — says.
“They have brought so much happiness into my life, and they bring so much love to your life,” she adds of her pets.

Hilton’s first dog was Tinkerbell, a teacup Chihuahua that appeared alongside the star on The Simple Life. The animal died in 2015 at the age of 14.
“Tinkerbell was my first love, and just my best friend, my sister, my sidekick, my family — my everything,” Hilton recalls.

In the years since, the Parívie founder has owned many pets. Currently, she has 5 dogs, including her latest addition, a pup named Princess Hilton.
“Every day, you just feel so much happiness, just, like, having them by your side,” Hilton says with a smile.

Hilton’s latest project is her children’s television show, Paris & Pups. Her new career endeavor has earned approval from two of her biggest critics — her own kids.
“They were the first test subjects for the show,” Hilton says. “It was so cute to see every moment that they laughed at or every moment that really captured their attention, and they’ve loved every single episode. It’s made me really happy.”
As for the latest with her two little ones, the “Stars Are Blind” singer tells PEOPLE, “They’re growing up so fast. They’re both so tall and so smart.”
“They are best friends,” Hilton adds. “It’s like they’re twins. It’s just the cutest thing. It’s like a built-in best friend for life.”
