The management of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management (MAFWM) will today invite retail chains to create space for the urgent purchase of domestic surplus milk, in accordance with their capabilities, and will also contact large processors from Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) with a request to purchase Montenegrin dairy products.

This was agreed upon at a meeting held today between MAFWM representatives and representatives of dairies, milk processors, cooperatives, the Agricultural Cluster and the Livestock Breeders’ Union, the MAFWM said.

The statement states that the meeting discussed the possibility of overcoming the current situation and normalizing the process of purchasing and selling milk.

“As agreed, during the day, the Ministry’s management will invite retail chains to create space for the urgent purchase of domestic surpluses, in accordance with their capabilities. They will also contact large processors from Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina with a request to purchase our dairy products. According to processors and subcontractors, the most critical stocks are yogurt, fermented products and cheeses. They add that in the coming days there will be an excess stock of about 80 tons of milk. They also requested an urgent meeting with Minister Vladimir Joković, Minister of Economic Development Niko Đeljošaj and Prime Minister Milojko Spajić,” the statement states.

The MAFWM, headed by Vladimir Joković, said that after overcoming the current crisis with excess supplies, it was agreed that the current management, in cooperation with other government departments, would try to find a longer-term solution.

“As agreed, dairies will remain in constant contact with the Ministry until the situation is resolved. The meeting was attended by State Secretary Krsto Rađenović, Director of the Food Safety, Veterinary and Phytosanitary Affairs Directorate Vladimir Đaković, and Head of the Inspection Service at the Directorate of Agriculture Ranko Bogavac,” the MAFWM said.
