A new Romanian national high-speed network linking the country’s east coast with the Hungarian border is both technically and economically “entirely realistic,” according to a feasibility study unveiled by the European Investment Bank in Bucharest this week. Presented at the Railway Days 2025 conference, the report positions Romania as a potential high-speed rail hub in Eastern Europe, with the “many billions” apparently still available to upgrade the infrastructure.
