This thing has always fascinated me, having also studied literature at university.
My first girlfriend, after staying with relatives in Rome for a short time in the summer, returned to the South with a very strong Roman accent. At first I thought he was making fun of me, but instead he told me he didn’t realize it.
Now that I too have gone from Sicily to live in Lombardy, when I talk to old friends on the phone they tell me that I talk "strange".
Who knows what it is, maybe there will also be mirror neurons in the language area of the brain? Or is it our unconscious that does it to bring us closer to new friends and new colleagues from other parts of Italy…

l’accento romano è il più contagioso di tutti
Pure il mio amico che lavora a Roma da 3 anni parla da romanaccio nonostante sia veneto
Mi fa specie ogni volta che lo sento
Io passo la mia vita a scusarmi con la gente che ha accenti forti perché dopo 5 minuti insieme inizio a “scimmiottare” il loro accento senza volerlo
Quello che mi faceva pisciare piú di tutti era un muratore siciliano in lombardia: accento del sud ma sacramenti in bresciano, grande beppe
A me sembra talmente ovvio senza nemmeno scomodare teorie cognitive. Da sempre l’essere umano imita i comportamenti di chi frequenta: la camminata, il modo di scherzare, le espressioni. Se in luogo tutti ballano il tango non ballerai la break dance. Se in luoghi tutti fanno il bagno in costume non lo farai nudo.
Il modo di parlare è semplicemente una normalissima abitudine diffusa a cui una persona si abitua come per qualsiasi altra cosa.
È una cosa normalissima, io ho pure fatto su e giù tra 2 lingue tipo 3 volte e sono passata dalla Ciociaria a Roma, i cambi ci sono eccome, e non ci vuole nemmeno troppo ad assimilarli se non stai spesso in una bolla familiare.
