Greetings and welcome to another bit of Friday-flavored fluff, just another romp through my summer vacation photos from Poland.

Of course, I do have a few more recent photos to share. Like, these are a few photos from last week when I finally got to open up my little kiln and see how the firing at the end of September went.

Here’s the broad side of the kiln. The door to the firebox is closed while I’ve opened up the upper door which leads into the firing chamber.

I’ve peeled out the ceramic fiber insulation and there’s the temporary wall I put in to seal the chamber while leaving a peep hole.

Half the wall carefully removed. Some pots from people who’d visited me and thrown something using my kick wheel are on the shelf on the left. The little blob on the shelf by itself is the melted 900°C pyrometric cone in its little clay base. In the back, a spooky figure lurks …

    And now, sand!

    Slovinski National Park

Two of Poland’s largest lakes, a dwarf pine forest and a unique stretch of Baltic coastline— what more could you want?

Occasional spots opened up where we could see the encroaching sand dunes burying the forest

Where the sands had moved on, you could see the uncovered dead trunks of the pines. In the background in the highest dune at around 40 meters.

You begin to understand why this place is nicknamed “The Polish Sahara”
