"Türkiye is experiencing the deepest economic and political crisis in its history! And both the mainstream and social media are trying to get through this crisis by whistling!

The human dimension of the crisis we are experiencing is everywhere for seeing eyes. People are unhappy. We can see this even while walking on the street. People are nervous. We can see this in traffic, shopping, classes or workplaces. People are worried. We can see this in companies on the verge of bankruptcy, in young people who have lost hope and locked themselves at home, and in primary school children who dream of going abroad.

Let’s look at negative emotions first. In Türkiye, 42 percent of people are worried, 57 percent are stressed, 31 percent are sad, 30 percent are angry. We are above the world average in each of these rates. Even in Rwanda, which has a world record in stress level, people’s stress level remains at 64 percent! But just like last year’s report, the data that worries me the most this year are the ones about our positive emotions.

Where we really fail is positive emotions this year, just like last year. In Türkiye, 85 percent of people say they feel respected, 36 percent say they laugh or smile, 40 percent say they enjoy themselves, 69 percent say they have a good rest, and 17 percent say they learned something new or did something interesting the day before. We are below the world average in each of these five positive experiences. But to fully understand how depressed people are in the country, let’s take a look at where we are in the world rankings.

Türkiye is among the three countries with the lowest percentage of people enjoying their lives in the world. But this is not the area where we found the bottom and where we came last among 144 countries. Türkiye is the country where the least laughing people in the world live. In this indicator, where the world average is 73 percent, Türkiye ranks last with an average of 36 percent. Even in Lebanon, which was on the verge of civil war and disaster last year, people laugh more than we do. In countries such as Indonesia and Senegal, this rate exceeds 90 percent.

As an educator, I left the data that upset me the most in terms of our ranking in the world in this report for last. On average, one in every two people in the world (52 percent) say they learned something new or had a new experience the day before. In many countries, this rate is over 70 percent. In our country, this rate, which was 23 percent last year, has fallen to the last place in the world with 17 percent this year. There is no country in the world that learns less new things or experiences less new excitement than us! You know, we always say that we have a bad taste in our mouth, unfortunately this data confirms it."
