Local elections in North Macedonia took place on 19th of October in 80 municipalities and the city of Skopje. Voters turned out in a calm atmosphere, according to the State Election Commission (SEC).

Elections featured 22 political parties, 19 coalitions, and 119 independent candidates competing for 80 mayoral posts. Over 10,490 candidates ran for 576 municipal council seats.

The campaign ran from September 29 to October 17 and focused on EU integration, anti-corruption, and local development.

In May 2025, the Constitutional Court canceled the rule requiring signatures from 1% of voters for independent candidates. This change eased participation and promoted political pluralism.

The OSCE/ODIHR deployed a mission with 14 experts and 24 long-term observers, highlighting the need for improved electoral procedures. Officials allocated a total budget of €9.76 million, two-thirds of which went to media and political advertising.

If turnout fails to reach the one-third threshold, some municipalities will move directly to the second round.
