Type 2 diabetic, received transplanted pancreatic cells from a deceased donor in 2021 which allowed them to be insulin free, but certainly hasn’t cured the diabetes, just sent it into remission (this would do nothing for the insulin resistance). This was possible because they’d already received a kidney, so would have been on anti-rejection drugs.
A number of type 1 diabetics have been “cured” by receiving a pancreatic transplant at the same time as another organ (I don’t know if it’s done much or at all for type 2). It’s not usually done if they’re not having another organ, because the anti-rejection drugs are usually considered worse than the diabetes. But if they’re going to be taking them anyway… So this “cure” is actually something done relatively often in specific situations.
