The Council of the European Union has approved the agreement enabling Switzerland to participate in several EU programmes, including Horizon Europe, Euratom Research and Training, ITER/Fusion for Energy (F4E), Digital Europe, Erasmus+, and EU4Health.

The agreement forms part of a broader package of bilateral agreements negotiated between the European Union and the Swiss Confederation in 2024. It is the first agreement of the package to be signed and implemented retroactively as of the beginning of 2025. Provisional application will take effect from 1 January 2025, allowing transitional arrangements already granted by the Commission to apply to award procedures for 2025 commitment appropriations.
