  1. Enjoying all the benefits none of us under 40 will ever get whilst consistently voting for a worse life for all of us. Fantastic news.

  2. It’s my belief that this will cripple the current working generations. My parents can’t afford a care home. While other old folks are locked into Gucci fi al salary pensions and will be retired longer than they worked with no in-between

There should be a government initiative to buy a bunch of those robotic exoskeletons/mecha suits and get those olds back in the workforce.

But but but, aren’t all the pensioners freezing to death though, because of the removal of their winter fuel allowance?

  5. All of this pension bashing is a bit pathetic. It wasn’t Joe bloggs’ master plan to live on a pension for 40 years.

Some of the rhetoric around seeing the elderly as a waste of resources belongs in the 1930s and 40s.

Right when Brits want to deport immigrants, many of whom are critical to service industries such as elder care. People clearly learned nothing from the pandemic when many in old age homes went hungry and were left to rot in their own excrement due the shortage of care workers.

This is why we have immigrant workers. And even *with* immigrant workers, with “uncontrolled borders”, we still have 100,000 NHS vacancies.

Remember that before you vote for mass deportations under a Farage-Tory coalition.

Once we remove the immigrants, the pensioners shall soon be forced to take the long walk during the middle of winter if you’ve been on the pension for over 20 years.

For the good of the economy of course

More men alive due to horrifically bad jobs for your health like coal mining and deep sea fishing coming to an end.

  10. Reddit is pathetic sometimes. If people, and men especially are living longer you should be grateful, because your turn will come soon enough.

Equally people paying into their pensions over many decades didn’t know that. The real enemy are governments, employers and pension funds who were happy to take the money in but not keep up with revaluations of their funds or the required tax take by government, hence cut backs in defined benefit pensions or fund shortfalls.

I do agree fewer workers supporting more pensioners is not a good thing and I certainly support initiatives like taking 2p off NI and adding it to income tax, which pensioners do pay.

Edit: Grammar corrected. I really must stop typing faster than my abilities.

Fuck what the general public think and abolish the triple lock.
The government is supposed to take the decisions that are right, not popular or easy.

Thata bad news, young people hate 9ld people. They complaining on social m3dia that they have to much money, their state pension is too high. It should be means tested.

I have to admit to getting fed up with the old person hate on here. We all have elderly parents or grandparents and Im pretty sure most of them aren’t living a life of luxury.

Most of the OAPs I know have the state pension and a few grand from a private pension. I only know one with a DB pension topping up what they get to a decent level.

It is maybe lost how pensions worked until more recently. Auto enrollment was a big change as has been technology. The first pensions I had gave almost no choice and there was no online portal. In my last job before my current one the selection of funds was barely 100 and most of those were terrible.

We do have a pensions issue but the cost our pensions is far lower than most other OECD countries. They are almost amongst the least generous.

It is undeniable that some form of means testing is going to be required at some point. This is a no brainer for people on big gold plated public sector pensions. It is somewhat more complex for those with DC schemes or Sipps (or even huge ISAs). The first thing we need to tackle though is providing certainty. The goal posts are changed at almost every budget and most people are at the whims of the stockmarket in DC schemes. 90% of people never leave the default fund most of which have appalling returns.

Ultimately we need to force everyone to save more and the state pension gradually phased out. Can we stop bashing old people though who did nothing wrong other than be born 65+ years ago.

Platforms like Reddit need to ban AI slop or at least make it a requirement to have (AI generated) in the title. Too many are taken in by this sort of AI biased propaganda.

  15. What is wrong with people? All the top comments instantly went with their gripe with people receiving a state pension that equates to 45% of minimum wage. Find another axe to grind FFS, making old people poorer won’t solve your problems.

  16. I plan to live to a hundred with the triple lock my State pension will be 16 trillion quid a year by then. Thanks.

  17. yeah that and there is a crazy number of baby boomers falling into the “elderly” category all at once.
