Disinformation and fact-checking experts from across the Mediterranean will be at the University of Malta on October 30 to meet with the public and explain their work.
The event, which will be held between 10 and 11.30am at the Faculty of Media and Knowledge Sciences at the University of Malta’s Msida campus, will see members of the Mediterranean Digital Media Observatory (MedDMO) project discuss media, journalism and the battle against disinformation.
Launched in 2023, MedDMO brings together journalists, media literacy experts and researchers in Malta, Greece and Cyprus, as well as the AFP. It is one of the 14 hubs under the European Digital Media Observatory (EDMO), and it has been working to promote a healthier information environment through fact-checking activities, disinformation analysis, and media literacy campaigns and training.
The project was recently renewed by the European Commission and will run for at least another three years.
MedDMO’s local partners are Times of Malta and the University of Malta’s Department of Media and Communications.
The October 30 event will see international members of the MedDMO consortium present their work, followed by a panel discussion featuring editors of Times of Malta and AFP and a representative from the Malta Communications Authority.
Participation is free but registration is required through this form. Full information can be found in the same form.
