President Donald Trump received his lowest approval rating yet on the top issues voters elected him to fix, according to the newly released Quinnipiac University poll.

The poll, released Wednesday, showed 38% of voters approved of Trump’s handling of the economy, while 57% disapproved and 5% had no opinion. Quinnipiac noted that Trump’s approval rating on the economy is the lowest score he has received since the start of his first term in February 2017, which is when the pollster started asking the question.

Trump’s previous low on the economy was just last month, when 39% of voters approved of his handling of the issue.

“With a nearly 20-point gap between approval and disapproval on President Trump’s handling of the economy, it’s a low water mark for a president who promised a vibrant and muscular economy,” Quinnipiac University Polling analyst Tim Malloy said in the press release.

The poll also found Trump received low marks on his handling of several other issues, including the military and the Russia-Ukraine war. His approval rating for the handling of the Israel-Hamas conflict skyrocketed in this month’s poll after he announced a peace agreement to halt the fighting in the region.

“Approval for President Trump’s handling of the Israel – Hamas conflict leaps as hostages are released and a fragile ceasefire holds. But the optimism is tempered by voters’ concerns that the promise of peace may just be temporary,” Malloy said.

Here are Trump’s marks on those key issues:

  • Military: 43% approved and 52% disapproved.
  • Russia-Ukraine war: 36% approved and 54% disapproved.
  • Israel-Hamas conflict: 47% approved and 41% disapproved.

Overall, Trump received a 40% approval rating and a 54% disapproval rating.

The poll also asked respondents whether Republicans or Democrats were to blame for the ongoing government shutdown. It found that 45% of voters believe Republicans in Congress are more responsible, while 39% said Democrats were more responsible. Another 11% of voters said both parties are equally responsible for the shutdown.

The poll was conducted among 1,327 registered voters from Oct. 16–20. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
