The Croatian Parliament today passed the Act on Amendments to the Defence Act and the Act on Service in the Armed Forces, which introduces basic military training.

As reported by HRT, after the adopted laws enter into force, the Croatian Ministry of Defense will adopt bylaws that will enable the implementation of basic military training.

The Croatian Ministry of Defense said that the goal of the program is to train young people in basic military skills, so that they can acquire the knowledge and abilities needed in crisis situations and thus contribute to national security.

“Trained personnel become an important part of the reserve force of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Croatia and strengthen the country’s defense readiness,” the Ministry of Defense stated.

It is planned to invite around four thousand people annually, divided into five generations.

Men born in 2007 should be invited to basic military training next year.

Women are not subject to conscription, but can voluntarily attend basic military training.

The first invitations for medical examinations are expected by early December, and are sent by regional defense offices according to the place of residence.
