FiberCop, complaint to the EU: «State aid of up to 4.5 billion for Open Fiber». Extended times for the single network project if Brussels decides to start the investigation

If the investigation begins, the times for approximately 700 thousand residents in the gray zone will be lengthened and also in general for the “Broadband” project.

The complaint also mentions the possibility of removing 700 thousand house numbers from the work entrusted to Open Fiber in the gray areas (semi-market failure) subsidized with Pnrr funds, arguing that if the measure were to materialize, this would be added to the long series of actions to shore up the competitor’s activity which, moreover, would avoid paying fines of hundreds of millions for delays in deadlines foreseen, which Fibercop is respecting in the lots under its responsibility. Ultimately, Fibercop maintains that in a highly competitive context, discretionary interventions by the State risk substantially altering the level playing field between operators.

If the request gave rise to the opening of an investigation by the EU on the issue of state aid, the time would inevitably be extended for a possible discussion of the single network project which is at the heart of the Government and that is the union between the two infrastructures with national coverage which, a unique case in Europe, not only are they competitors, but they are also both disconnected from the incumbent.
