MID-HUDSON – New Yorkers should not have to wait for lower cost energy sources to make heating and cooling their homes, New York Public Interest Research Group Senior Environmental Program Coordinator Eric Wood said.
Wood said “energy hogs” like crypto and AI are causing more demand for energy.
“The fossil fuel industry is perpetuating the myth that the federal permitting process is a major obstacle to build energy efficient infrastructure, and the reality is they just need to upgrade our transmission systems or grid and ultimately make our homes more efficient and weatherized and stop wasting so much energy,” he said.
Wood said while renewable energy is now more affordable that fossil fuels, the solution is not to simply thrown away essential environmental protections or produce more so-called “traditional energy sources” like coal, oil and gas.
