Hey everyone!

We’re a small group who want to organize a friendup in Oslo – a relaxed social meetup for adults who’d like to meet new people without any pressure.

We often see posts here on Reddit from both Norwegians and internationals saying it’s hard to get to know people in Oslo. We’d like to do something about that!

The concept is called Cacaocaland it started back in 2019 when we were all new to Oslo and didn’t have much of a social network here. The events have always been open to everyone, but the main target group is adults aged roughly 26–39 – people who are done with studies and have entered that “real adult life” phase.

In the past, we’ve hosted friendups where people meet over a cup of hot chocolate and chat around themes we prepare in advance. We use sign-ups so we can seat people with others they might have something in common with – interests, background, or hobbies.

Now we’d like to see if there’s interest in starting it up again!

If enough people sign up, we’re planning to host meetups roughly every other week through the winter* (except during the Christmas holidays) – with different themes and formats, but the same idea: a cozy, low-key space to meet new people (and maybe see some of the same faces again next time).

We already have a list of over 20 ideas for formats and topics. The first meetup would likely happen in mid-November.

The concept is free to join, but if you sign up and take a spot, we’ll collect a small deposit equivalent to the price of a cup of hot chocolate at the venue – which, of course, you’ll get when you show up. This is to prevent "ghosting" and taking up a spot that someone else could have had.

The only exceptions are events that have direct costs, like entrance fees or bookings. We usually organize this via vipps – I know that might be troublesome for some expats, but we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it. In the past, we’ve arranged everything from forest walks and saunas to afternoon tea and organized pub quiz teams.

*Once spring and summer roll around, the organizers are usually quite busy, so this is mainly a winter-season concept that hibernates during the bright and warm months.

Meetup in Oslo: Meet people. Make friends. Keep warm.
