If this is possible why didn’t the Tories do it for the14 years they were in power?

There was a really high visibility thing in Chester earlier this week going into workplaces and stuff. They set up a checkpoint type thing where all the just eat riders park up to go to McDonalds. They seemed to be nicking a lot of them for e-bike offences as well.

Seems for once we have a government arsed about this, but this is the only press article I’ve seen.

  3. Until we start punishing employers of illegal workers, it’s pointless. Why do UK governments repeatedly go after the symptom of an issue rather than the root cause.

  4. Labour achieving goals set and failed by the anti migrant bloc for a solid decade, but it’s not “their side” so they turn their noses up and act like they no longer care. Because they’re like snotty toddlers not serious people anyone should be listening to.

  5. I bet the right wing gutter press will find something much more important to put on their front pages though.

It’s Wednesday, though, so we have PMQs to look forward to, which could be a bloodbath for the Tories.

  6. There needs to be two or three more ‘biggest crackdowns in history’ before results show anything, the last couple decades of government chose not to do anything and now things are far out of proportion. Bike and phone theft is rampant, practically decriminalised due to lack of investigation, rape is skyrocketing, people cant defend themselves without getting arrested. This is not what the country used to be.

  7. I had applied to deliveroo a few years back and got told they were full. I kid you not, in the last 2 weeks my emails have literally exploded with them asking me everyday to resume my application and ‘get riding’.

Something has happened and I think we should give Labour credit where its due.

1% of the population are illegals. It looks appealing to the rid of them because of racism, but it won’t solve the complex structural problems. It will just another 10 years wasted. The sick country of Europe.

  9. They caught 10 and released for no evidence and 500 more crossing the channel every day
    A never ending job.

So the government gets rid of over 1000 illegal workers : complete media silence, one boat person tries their luck and it’s front page news. Tell me there isn’t an agenda?

  11. In Brighton:-

We have a massive problem with illegals delivering food – uber, just eat, Deliveroo.

They get a local to apply, then they get given the kit for a cut. You have men turning up with devices in woman’s name (English name -e.g. Kate), guy doesn’t speak a word of English

Or women driving for men’s names.

It’s so common, literally every driver.

Drug dealers are applying for delivery services – just to get the uniform – so they be driving around late at night dropping off drugs, you’re wearing Deliveroo jacket? Nothing suspicious, police don’t stop them.

If they wanted to stop this, they could in a day. All the riders hang out in one of three/four spots in the city.

  12. So what happens to the employers like Just Eat and Uber? do they get huge fines because they definitely can afford to pay.

Not doing thorough checks on legality to work is not an excuse, should fine these enablers massive amounts of money because they allow this BS illegal working to happen

  13. Shows what can be done without the need for ID cards but with some resource focussed on enforcement.

  14. But how are we going to get our fast food and parcels now ? And where am I going to get my haircut ?

So I’m surprised the government haven’t been screaming this from the rooftops AND this is the first/only article I’ve seen on this.

Although its a step forward, until its more out than in AND they actually punish these companies it wont have enough of an impact.

Stop any opportunities like this, and the numbers coming across will also start to drop. We don’t need unethical delivery companies anyway.

It won’t matter. The more ‘success stories’ like this that are pushed around illegal migration, the more Reform/Tories and their supporters will complain and try to move the goalposts. You can already see it happening with the focus shift from just asylum seekers to including those legally settled here.

    Everything will never be enough.

They could just get a bunch of officers to order Uber eats to the station. Save themselves the trip?
