Somebody bring this up to trump and frame it as “China beating the US” then watch NASA funding skyrocket.

Notice they never say they’re gonna beat the US to the moon. The time is always “by 2030”.

That’s fantastic news. The Chinese space programme is wonderful, kudos to them.

How confident was the US in pulling off a moonlanding back in 1964, 5 years before it happened?

*taikonauts are what people who travel in space for the Chinese space program are called

Current administration doesn’t care as long as it’s after Jan 21st, 2028. At which point its “we tried our best and the other guy blew the lead”

Remember when NASA said they were gonna go back by 2024? During Trumps first term Pence was big on ensuring NASA was a priority and Biden didn’t particularly cut funding so it wasn’t being stifled. Im not saying the Chinese haven’t made strides but talk is cheap. When the Chinese send up a test run akin to Artemis I or something like Apollo 8 I’ll have more faith because 5 years is a pretty tight timeframe considering they haven’t launched anything yet.

meanwhile that Duffy guy, you may know him as The Real World, Boston (1997), is laying off NASA employees and driving away STEM grads, yet expecting them to deliver their most ambitious mission yet.
How do these maga populists think this all works, in a sound stage and script?

I hope they can manage it but 4 years seems quite optimistic.

And by the looks of it the USA as well. It is mind boggling the infinity of stupid we have going on in the USA currently. It’s like suddenly everybody has become severely autistic in an evil way.

Is there a betting line? I’ll like to place a bet.

Maybe they’ll time it the same week the ISS gets deorbited, that would hurt

Given the way the US is currently being run, I think it’s a very real possibility. In fact, Uganda might get there ahead of the US at the current rate.
